The Police Department is comprised of:

Canton has 12 police officers including two sergeants and one corporal- working twelve-hour shifts. There are five dispatchers. Canton operates its own police traffic 24 hours a day.

Canton operates an enhanced 911 emergency dispatching system. It is monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Addresses within the city limits are visible to the dispatcher at the time the call is received.

Police Ride Along Program:
Qualified citizens may ride along with police officers during their routine patrol. Anyone interested in the Ride Along Program can obtain an application from the Police Service during regular office hours. The applicant's signature on the form must be notarized (we can do this for you at the office). After a routine background check, which usually takes 2-4 weeks, applicants will be contacted. Once approved you need only to call and schedule a time to ride along with an officer that will be working on that given day.

Police Reserve Officer Program:
Volunteer police officers support the department by donating their time to assist in all areas of police services work. Volunteers are required to work 20 hours per month with our department. The individual must be licensed by the State of Texas as a Police Officer to be a member of the program. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, in good physical condition, and willing to undergo screening, which includes a polygraph test, psychological evaluation, and background investigation.
